I would say it was instinctive and deliberate. He made a bit of a mess of it and stuck out his hand because the ball was getting away from him. I don’t have a problem with players doing this. Sometimes you try sneaky things and hope to get away with it. I suppose all the saints on this forum would never do anything against the rules.

I have a problem when officials don’t do their job properly, but in this case he couldn’t see it and neither could most of the players. Don’t worry about it and enjoy the weekend.

In real time and Skys normal camera angle it looks like a perfectly legitimate headed goal. It's only when looking at in slow motion and the other numerous camera angles that you can see that it has come off little Pea's hand. At the time he has his eyes closed and his head pointing down. Doe's that automatically make it deliberate and therefore to be ruled out? I can only remember one Fulham player Chambers I believe appealing for a hand ball. Due to no VAR the Officials can only give what they see. We all know what happened (twice) aginst the Mickey's in our last home game and that was more blatant. We seem to get more of these decisions go against us than for us, so boll@cks to people like Paul Jiggins of the Sun who dedicated most of his match report, even labelling Hernadez and the rest of our players as cheats on this one incident!

Overall a welcome 3 points without playing particularly well. We still keeping losing the ball far to easily no matter how poor the opposition!

Stewie Griffin - if anything you should be giving Hernandez some credit for looking sheepish, instead of wildly celebrating like some players would have. I would suggest he looked sheepish because he knew it come off his arm, that is hardly the same as intentionally handling it. I'd say the common view would suggest that he tried to head it, mis-timed it and it ended up coming off his arm. To label him a cheat is ridiculous.

I suspect that Hernandez knew full well that it came off his hand, and was anticipating it called as such.

The referee had a (very brief) moment of time to come to his decision and then give it.

In this case he gave the goal.

Hernandez is no more going to ask the referee to rescind it than would a remainer ask for another vote had they won the Brexit referendum.

VAR will just lengthen the time between event and decision, and introduce a few more judges of equal refereeing competence into the mix.

Good story.

I am not afraid to be called boring and people are willing to argue a point with me. What can I say?

For me, you give Hernandez awful lot of credit, in thinking this through in the split second the ball came of Ogbonna's head.

To me it was not intentional and not cheating. Remember until next year (it seems) a handball foul has to be deliberate according to the rules. (It is not called that way now, sometimes.)

Your argument that he was cheating because of the look on his face was the silly part.

From a corner that should have been a goal kick.... against a 'big team'... pretty sure I'd heard that never happens

VAR is coming
Just need competent people to administer it and to use it to eliminate howlers as it does in tennis and cricket

We will have decisions for and against but like most I think it will benefit us

No sign of them evening out against "big" sides, yet.

Probably have to wait until one of the big sides becomes a small side.

Look forward to us sending Chelsea down in February 2031 (sorry to violate Sven's copyright)

Ok, Canada son, I'll bite, and then I'm going out.

At best I'd call it gamesmanship. I think any one that has played football to any sort of standard would have their hand there, when you're stretching to reach it with your head and you know you're not quite getting there. I prefer to call a spade a spade though and for me it's cheating, because it's attempting to gain an advantage by doing something you know is against the rules.

But I'll stress again, I don't give a shit. Because I don't spend my life worrying about refereeing decisions, and bleating about how much of a victim I am. I passionately hate var and believe the element of human error adds something to the game, that watching 3 minutes of video from 17 different angles doesn't.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Fulham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
One thing it did show is Hernandez striking instincts.
If a ball flashes across the box you get something on it. If you miss it with your head he instinctively has his arm covering it.
Aguero did the same scoring his 3rd against Arsenal.
Slid in to get his body on it and made sure his hand was there to scoop it in.
Can’t recall people talking about him cheating or needing a ban

It was handball and the ref missed it.
It’s the first time we have had an error in our favour like that resulting in an undeserved goal since 2007.
See you again in 2031 for more ‘these things even out’.

It is all what if, so let's throw it out. You are right.

Is a handball automatically cheating?

Because I thought you were saying he had his hand in an unnatural position, like I said explicitly.

If you weren't, I said I was sorry.

And "No harm, no foul" says I had moved on, mate. Is there a reason we are coming back to it?

Your scenarios rely on a whole lot of "what ifs" You have no idea what would have happened.

Let's strike the two bad goals off and see what the scores are.

Your scenario is the ultimate 'What if' . The very next phase of play would be different, let alone the remainder of the game. In fact, it's an idiotic scenario, with respect

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Fulham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
I don't suppose too many players go out to cheat... what he did was instinctive... bit like punching a ball off the line if your leg or foot is nowhere near... it happens... just the vast majority of time it is seen by the officials... you could tell straight away he knew he had got away with it... no different to Diego... be back to our bad ol' luck so that all the woe is me merchants (13BR and Sven) will be chirping away gain next week...

"But all of that is beside the point - is a handball automatically cheating? You seem to not want to disagree but that is all I was saying."

So why attack what I said, which is entirely compatible with that?
